“This is Your Song Too” Phish & Jewish Identity: Book Talk & Concert

March 6 @ 5:00 pm 9:30 pm

Third Space at Shaarei Tfiloh

2001 Liberty Heights Ave
Baltimore, 21217
Free

Why do so many Jews love the band Phish? What is it about jam bands that draw in such a large Jewish fanbase? How did it come to be that Phish has its own jammed out version of Avinu Malkeinu in its musical rotation, the liturgical climax of Yom Kippur? Join us for an epic night of pre-party, kibitzing (discussion) and jammed out music in our sanctuary.

The night begins with a ‘lot scene’ downstairs with local vendors, nosh (food) and heady vibes. Our event officially kicks off with Rabbi Jessy Dressin in conversation with Ariella Werden-Greenfield and Oren Kroll-Zeldin, co-editors of the first scholarly exploration of the wide-ranging connections between Phish and Jews: This is Your Song Too: Phish and Contemporary Jewish Identity. After the talk, the music of hometown Phish cover band, Phoam, will fill the sanctuary with the feel-good, jammy and beloved music of the “band from Vermont”. Sure to be a highlight of the season, this is a must attend – whether you’ve been to no Phish shows or 200!

The night begins at 5 pm with vendors, food, and schmoozing, and the formal program kicks off at 6:45.
