In 1998, the late U.S. Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, came together with leaders from Maryland’s Jewish community, including the Baltimore Jewish Council, to form ECYP—a two-year leadership program for high school juniors and seniors created to promote understanding and cooperation between the Black and Jewish communities. Every other year, ECYP hosts Building Leaders by Building Bridges honoring the legacy Congressman Cummings started of building bridges through leadership development.
