Facilitator: Daniel Elbaum, Jewish Agency Head of North America: President & CEO of JAID
Dan will kick off the series with a discussion on the broader, global impact of legacy giving. He’ll delve into the role of philanthropy in uniting Jewish communities across borders, building resilience, and fostering a sense of shared responsibility. Drawing from his experience with The Jewish Agency for Israel, Dan will illustrate how local gifts contribute to global change and strengthen the Jewish identity worldwide.

Building a Family Legacy: Creating Values-Driven Giving Across Generations
Facilitator: Lauren Klein, Vice President, Funds & Foundations, The Associated
In the second session, Lauren will focus on the importance of family-centered philanthropy. She will guide participants in defining their own giving values which can inspire all generations, sharing techniques to engage children and grandchildren in the giving process. With her background in multi-generational philanthropy, Lauren will explore how families can make their giving personal, impactful, and deeply rooted in shared values. Adult children and grandchildren are welcome to attend.

Endowment Essentials: Creating Sustainable Impact Through Planned Giving
Facilitator: Kathy Sarlson, National Director of Life & Legacy, Harold Grinspoon Foundation
In the final session, Kathy will offer an in-depth look at the practical aspects of endowment and planned giving, tying together the themes of community and family impact. With her expertise, she willl cover strategies for structuring your own legacy gifts, including the financial and legal considerations, and ensuring gifts make a lasting difference. Kathy’s insights will empower participants with the tools to build enduring legacies that support the community’s long-term vision.

Dan Elbaum is the Head of North America for The Jewish Agency for Israel and President and CEO of Jewish Agency International Development (JAID). In this role, he leads and oversees all aspects of the historic organization’s North American operations. Since taking on his current position, Elbaum has spearheaded innovative new ways to advance The Jewish Agency’s work in connecting American Jews to Israel and Jews around the world. He has appeared in media outlets ranging from NBC Dateline to Al Jazeera and has had opinion pieces published in both English and Hebrew in some of America and Israel’s leading newspapers.
Lauren Klein is the Vice President, Funds and Foundations, at The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore. A seasoned non-profit professional, Lauren helps donors at The Associated with all of their charitable giving and guides them on their philanthropic journey. Specifically, she assists families in the creation of their philanthropic mission and values, works with families in the engagement of their children and grandchildren, and develops a variety of educational opportunities to deepen understanding of community priorities and needs. She is also a certified trainer with 21/64, a non-profit consulting firm specializing in helping multiple generations work together more effectively.
Kathy Sarlson serves as National Director of Life & Legacy at the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. With over 35 years of experience, Kathy has a deep expertise in planned giving and endowments, including her role as Associate Vice President of Planned Giving at Jefferson, a leading academic medical center in Philadelphia, where she successfully raised $35 million annually. Her leadership extends to roles at the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, Federation Housing, Inc., and Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, all in Philadelphia.
