An American Tune: Celebrating Jewish Connections with Folk and Folk/Rock

Thu, 23 Mar, 2017 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Leonard Cohen… why does so much of the 60s folk movement have Jewish roots? Join Jewish Museum of Maryland Director, Marvin Pinkert, as he shares insights gained in preparing for the 2015 Paul Simon: Words and Music exhibit. In his talk and musical examples, Pinkert will not only speak to the causes of the connections, but will also explore why these Jewish links made a difference in the evolution of this musical style. It’s a hootenanny with history!
