One Place Where You Make a Difference: Leaving a Legacy

A Continuum of Commitment

Your commitment to The Associated and the Jewish people is evident in everything you do—the  responsibility you take, the care you give and the values you teach. Now you can deepen your commitment. You can inspire the next generation and generations after that. You can make a connection to the future. That connection begins with your legacy.

The Vital Role of Endowing Annual Campaign Gifts

Endowing an annual campaign gift enables you to leave a legacy that ensures our community not only survives but thrives long into the future. Here is why this is so crucial:

  • Sustaining long-term support: Annual campaign gifts provide essential funding for programs, services and initiatives. By endowing your gift, you help to create a financial foundation that allows The Associated to plan for the future with confidence, ensuring continuity in the services that support our community’s needs.

  • Adapting to changing needs: As our community evolves, so do its needs. An endowment allows The Associated to be flexible and responsive to these changes. The funds from an unrestricted endowment can be directed to emerging priorities and new initiatives, ensuring that organizations remain relevant and effective in addressing the community’s most pressing issues.

  • Encouraging future generations: Endowing an annual campaign gift demonstrates a commitment to long-term giving and encourages others to think about their own philanthropic legacy. By making endowments a priority, we cultivate a culture of giving that will sustain our community for generations to come.

When you establish an Annual Campaign Endowment (ACE) or a Lion of Judah Endowment (LOJE) at The Associated, you endow your gift to The Associated and guarantee future support for critical programs and services in the community. The annual spendable portion of the fund is used each year to make a grant to The Associated’s Annual Campaign. The distribution will be made in your name in perpetuity. With an ACE or a LOJE fund, your annual gift will be there forever to carry on your acts of tzedakah and charity.

How Does It Work?

All of us, regardless of age, wealth or affiliation, have the ability to leave a legacy. Your legacy gift of any size can be customized and structured to fit your dreams, lifestyle, family and financial needs. To determine the estimated amount, you need to endow your entire campaign gift, simply multiply your current annual gift by 20. Alternatively, you may endow a portion of your gift by establishing an ACE or a LOJE fund with a lesser amount, perhaps building up the fund through subsequent contributions.

There are several ways to fund your ACE or LOJE:

Gift of Cash/Assets: An outright gift of cash or appreciated assets like stocks or bonds is the easiest way.

Bequest: A simple bequest in a will is the most common technique for creating an ACE or LOJE.

Gift of Life Insurance: A gift of a life insurance policy is particularly appealing for younger donors because of its reasonable cost and tax benefit. By naming The Associated as owner and beneficiary, the donor may be able to deduct the premiums.

IRA or Pension Plans: IRA and pension plans are subject to high testamentary taxes. That makes them ideal for transfer in whole or in part to a charity to create an ACE or a LOJE. The IRA Charitable Rollover provisions make this a particularly attractive way to establish a meaningful gift.

Charitable Income Plan: A Charitable Remainder Trust or Charitable Gift Annuity offers life income payments with the benefit of a current tax deduction. The remainder of the trust or annuity can be dedicated to create an ACE or LOJE.

A Call to Action

As we reflect on all that we share, it’s also a moment to think about the part each of us plays in shaping the future of our Jewish community. By endowing your annual campaign gift, you help ensure that The Associated can continue its vital work, that our community’s needs are met, and that our shared legacy carries forward for generations.

The strength of our community comes not only from the generosity of today’s donors, but also from the lasting support we build through endowment. It is an investment in the future, a reflection of our values and a meaningful way to honor those who came before us while creating a strong foundation for generations to come.
