Join The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore for a special presentation, Justice in Focus: A Conversation with Judge David S. Tatel. The conversation will be Thursday, February 5, 7:30 p.m. at The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore’s headquarters, located at 5700 Park Heights Avenue on the Goldsmith Campus.
During the evening, Judge Tatel will discuss his book, Vision: A Memoir of Blindness and Justice. The conversation will focus on Judge Tatel’s personal journey living with a progressive eye disease.
He also will talk about his career in the legal system and the role his blindness played in both his personal and professional life. Having hidden his disability from his colleagues for much of his career, he will share his journey to living openly and confidently with blindness.
Judge David Tatel served on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 1994 to 2024, succeeding future Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He also was the founding director of the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and headed the Office for Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare during the Carter administration. In addition, he led the education practice at Hogan Lovells, where he is now Senior Counsel. Judge Tatel is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Chicago Law School.
