Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc. (CHAI) has resources available to help you stay in your home. If you are facing foreclosure, the first step is to complete a foreclosure education class. For resources to prevent eviction, complete the counseling form on CHAI’s website to have a housing counselor reach out to you.

CHAI’s Senior Home Repair and Benefits program is a resource for eligible low-to-moderate income seniors living in their own homes or condominiums. Assistance with benefits applications, home repair and housing options counseling are all part of the SHR&B program. For more information, please call 410-500-5433.

Baltimore City and County offer home repair programs for homeowners who need a major system replacement or accessibility renovations. This includes:

  • City: Housing Upgrades to Benefit Seniors (HUBS) for city residents: 667-999-4827.
  • County: Baltimore County Age-Friendly Upgrades for Seniors (BCAUSE) for county residents: 410-887-2594.

If you are under the age of 62 with a disability, both Jewish Community Services (JCS) and Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc. (CHAI) offer affordable housing options.

There are multiple housing style options available for people with disabilities depending on the needs of each individual.

  • Independent Living: These apartments or homes are designed with accessibility features to support independent living. They may include modifications like ramps, widened doorways and lower countertops. Some communities also offer supportive services, such as assistance with daily living activities, to help residents maintain their independence.
  • Group Homes: A shared living environment with other individuals with disabilities. These settings offer varying levels of support and supervision, depending on the needs of the residents. Group homes can be a good option for those who require some assistance but still desire a degree of independence and social interaction.
  • Supported Housing Programs: Affordable housing with tailored support services to help individuals with disabilities live independently. Services may include case management, life skills training and access to healthcare and social services. Designed to help residents maintain their housing and improve quality of life.
