Marking Passages: Mezuzah-Inspired Stories

Rooted in one of Judaism’s most ancient traditions, mezuzahs mark thresholds—of homes, journeys, and change. Inspired by Upon Thy Gates, now on view in the Long Gallery, the Jewish Museum of Maryland’s new audiovisual production studio is launching Marking Passages, a storytelling project in partnership with The Stoop Storytelling Series.

The project invites community members to share true, personal stories sparked by the idea of the mezuzah—as a symbol of home, transition, memory, or belonging. Stories do not need to be about Judaism or a literal mezuzah; the object serves simply as an invitation to reflect.

Participants can record their stories in JMM’s production studio during Open Studio Hours or by appointment. Selected storytellers will be invited to share a 7-minute story at a live event at the Museum on Thursday, March 19, 2026, with coaching from The Stoop.

The submission deadline for the live storytelling event is Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Submit your story and learn more about Marking Passages at the link below.
