Where the Poppies Bloom: A Baltimore Community Commemoration of October 7

Join Baltimore Israel Coalition, The Associated, and Art with a Heart for Baltimore’s October 7 community commemoration and the launch of a new memorial garden project. Through a brief ceremony and the making of ceramic poppies for the garden, we will remember those who were killed, honor lives forever changed, and create a space for memory, healing, and hope.

5:00 p.m. All-Age Ceramic Poppy Making Workshop
In this hands-on workshop, you will learn about the symbolism of kalaniyot (poppies) in Israel and create a ceramic poppy that will become part of our memorial garden. Children are welcome and will be given a special coloring page to take home with them!

6:00 p.m. Community Commemoration
Gather with our community outside for a brief ceremony as we launch the creation of a garden of remembrance, reflection, and hope. Together we will honor those whose lives were taken and those whose lives are forever changed.

7:00 p.m. Ceramic Poppy Making Workshop
As we create ceramic poppies for the memorial garden, we will consider how the kalanit’s symbolism of remembrance and resilience might reflect the experiences of American and Israeli Jews over the past three years. This workshop is best suited for adults only.
