2024 Jewish Women’s Giving Foundation: Israel Grants Awarded

Jerusalem women soldiers

The Associated’s Jewish Women’s Giving Foundation started its program year right before October 7. In consideration of the tragedy that happened in Israel, understanding that Israeli nonprofits were not in a position to submit a letter of inquiry.

With the knowledge that women are uniquely impacted by war, JWGF changed their grantmaking process this year – ultimately funding six organizations working in Israel, in addition to supporting some local programs helping women and girls. This includes:

Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel

The Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel is the only organization in Israel whose main aim is to combat sexual violence. They work at the individual and regional level to provide services and support for individual victims of sexual violence and raise awareness in their local communities.

Post-October 7, ARCCI expanded both their direct aid services and their hotline..They have experienced a surge in need from victims of sexual assault due to the war and are encouraging rape survivors for whom the events are re-igniting past traumas to call its hotlines for help. They recently issued a report on the sexual violence perpetrated by Hamas on October 7 that has received international attention.

The Israel Women’s Network

The Israel Women’s Network (IWN) promotes a better society in Israel by focusing on women’s equality and creating the social, physical, economic and judicial conditions for their prosperity.

Post-October 7, IWN expanded their mission due to the immense need to exercise rights for women’s issues during the war and the current lack of female representation at government decision making tables. They have also expanded their work internationally, in particular leading a coalition that sent a letter to the UN to take a stance on the sexual violence perpetrated against women on October 7.

Magen David Adom

Magen David Adom (MDA) is an emergency response organization. We support MDA’s National Human Milk Bank that provides mothers’ milk to premature babies and to babies who were orphaned, whose mothers were abducted or injured, and to babies of mothers who were recruited to the IDF.

NATAL Israel Trauma and Resiliency Center

NATAL is a multidisciplinary trauma center that treats those directly and indirectly affected by war and terror-related trauma in Israel. They aspire to advance the resiliency of Israeli society through treatment, prevention, public awareness and research.

Post-October 7, NATAL’s operations switched to emergency mode in 7 minutes and their volume quadrupled. We are supporting their gender lens work, including, work with displaced mothers, female survivors of the NOVA music festival and female IDF veterans.

Project Kesher

Project Kesher (PK)’s mission is to build Jewish community and advance civil society by developing women leaders in Ukraine, Belarus and, previously, Russia. PK Israel works to support Ukrainian and Russian women immigrants and refugees in Israel by utilizing a cultivated network of trained leaders, trusted partners, and effective strategies.

Post-October 7, PK Israel has several humanitarian initiatives underway, including direct aid and mental health services, to support the vulnerable and twice-traumatized population of Ukrainian and Russian women immigrants and refugees in Israel.

The Ruth and Emanuel Rackman Center for the Advancement of the Status of Women

Rackman promotes the status of women in matters of family law and seeks to end gender discrimination and inequality in Israel. The Center runs a legal aid program for women in family law and engages in promoting legal and social change for women and women’s empowerment.

Post-October 7, Rackman has been a regular voice on the international stage, in particular at the United Nations where they have advocated for the recognition of the sexual violence perpetrated against women.

JWGF is a program of The Associated. This women’s giving circle, guided by Jewish values, promotes lasing social change by supporting organizations that transform the lives of self-identified women and girls.
