Meet Neil Dubovsky

In between Zoom calls, filing lawsuits and navigating the art of distance learning, Towson resident, attorney, husband of Stacie and father of Hailey and Becca, Neil Dubovsky took a few minutes to answer some of our rapid-fire questions.

I detect an accent. Where are you from originally?

Cape Town, South Africa – My family and I emigrated to Atlanta (Go Braves and Falcons!) and I stayed in Georgia until I completed my undergraduate degree.

What brought you to Baltimore?

I came to Baltimore to attend the University of Baltimore School of Law. I became quite fond of the city to the point where I considered it home. In fact, I am one of four children in my family and only one of us calls Atlanta home.

How did you become involved with The Associated?

Well at first, I participated in the Baltimore Jewish Council’s Leadership Development Program. There I made some close friends that I am still in touch with today. Most recently I learned of The Associated’s newly formed Cardozo Society, a social and networking group for Jewish attorneys in the area. As a member of its steering committee, I help to think up ideas for programming and how to encourage more members to support The Associated financially.

My grandfather was quite active in the equivalent of The Associated in Cape Town. He instilled in us the importance of supporting the Jewish community. I feel that I honor him with my involvement and philanthropy and The Associated.

What is your favorite Jewish holiday?

I have fond memories of extended family around the Seder table in Cape Town.

I have fond memories of extended family around the Seder table in Cape Town. Around 40 of us – parents, children, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins would take turns reading the Haggadah and retelling the story of Passover. I can still remember the smells coming from the kitchen and hear the laughter that went on throughout the evening.

Here in Baltimore we frequently spend time with my wife’s extended family and are lucky enough to also be surrounded by friends who have become like family to us. We share the holidays with our chosen family and have begun to create new traditions with our children.

What would surprise most people to learn about you?

I expanded on my love of musical theater by auditioning for Charm City Player’s production of Mama Mia. I was cast in the ensemble and rehearsed for three months and performed in its short run of seven performances. I still don’t know how I found the time between work and home to take on such a commitment, but it was an experience I will never forget.
