10 Things to Know About
Jessica Gorsky

Jessica Gorsky

Jessica Gorsky has been involved with The Associated for the past seven years. She balances a busy professional career as a Trusts and Estates attorney and mom to an active two-year old with her volunteer positions as co-chair of the Ben-Gurion Society, board member of The Associated’s Young Adult Division (YAD) and ambassador for the Baltimore-Odesa Partnership.

Here are 10 things to know about Jessica.

1. Jessica and her husband Jordan, met in 2011 during their first year of law school at the University of Baltimore. They are both attorneys at Whiteford, Taylor and Preston.

2. Interestingly enough, as a young child, Jessica says she wanted to be a lawyer or “businesswoman” when she grew up.

“I was obsessed with briefcases.” #girlboss

3. She is a first generation American, her family on both sides immigrated to Baltimore from Ukraine in 1979.

“My parents were teenagers when they came to the states.  My father came with his parents to Baltimore from Kiev, while my mother came with her parents from Odesa.  My parents met in Baltimore and have lived primarily in Baltimore ever since.”

4. Jessica is very passionate about preserving the rights of Jews globally, but especially in Ukraine.

“My grandparents have always expressed to me that as simple as it sounds, they came to America for the opportunity for a better life and the freedom to pursue it without fear. It’s my life’s passion to carry those ideals forward. I share my family’s story often to raise awareness for the continued antisemitism that exists in the world and to try and encourage others, especially in my community, to support the efforts of Jews in the world who may not have the resources we do so as to try and help others live their lives and practice their faith safely and hopefully without fear.”

5. Her mother’s cousin from Los Angeles travelled to Odesa for the holidays last year around the time the war began.  He has remained in Odesa ever since and founded a non-profit whose mission is to transport military equipment into Ukraine through Odesa to help support the country’s resistance efforts.

“Since starting this non-profit in spring 2022, he has managed to distribute millions of dollars’ worth of military equipment and training to assist the untrained civilians who have joined the military effort. In fact, his efforts to the Ukrainian Army have been so helpful that he received a medal of honor from Oleksii Reznikov, the current Minister of Defence of Ukraine.”

6. When not working, Jessica enjoys exploring new and fun kid-based activities to do with her son, trying out new restaurants in Baltimore, traveling and just spending quality time with friends and family.

7. She says her favorite new restaurant is Alma Cocina Latina, hands down.

8. Everyone is binging something on tv these days.

“Yes. The Yellowstone franchise, it’s so addictive. And, the best movie I’ve recently watched was Everything Everywhere All At Once…it was beautiful, funny, touching, suspenseful and exciting all at the same time.”

9. Podcasts to recommend? “Really anything on Wondery. Imagined Life is really fascinating.”

10. Jessica says her all-time favorite Associated event is The Generosity Gala. “It’s always a genuinely good time.”
