SUMMARY:Saul - by Handel
DESCRIPTION:Saul – by Handel \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nSaul will be performed by 100+ musicians on the bimah\, including choir\, soloists and orchestra. Experience the power and drama of Handel’s monumental oratorio Saul\, one of the composer’s greatest masterpieces. Based on the biblical story of Israel’s first king and his growing jealousy of David\, the work explores ambition\, faith\, triumph\, and tragedy through brilliant choruses\, expressive arias\, and vivid orchestral writing. From David’s victory over Goliath to Saul’s tragic downfall\, this gripping musical drama remains one of the Baroque era’s most compelling achievements and a masterpiece of storytelling. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Upcoming Events\n \n \n\n\n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Women of Impact: A Jewish Heritage Journey to Philadelphia\n Join us for a day of learning\, connection and Jewish discovery as we travel together to Philadelphia for an immersive cultural experience. \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n For the Sake of Argument\n How do we have healthy conversations about Israel when those conversations threaten to divide us? SUMMARY:Encounters: Dialogue\, Antisemitism\, and the Israeli-Palestinian Divide
DESCRIPTION:Encounters: Dialogue\, Antisemitism\, and the Israeli-Palestinian Divide\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nOver the course of three sessions\, read the book and dig into deeper learning and discussion with the author! In his forthcoming book\, Encounters: Dialogue\, Antisemitism\, and the Israeli-Palestinian Divide\, author Benjamin E. Sax\, Ph.D.\, explores how to discuss the Israeli -Palestinian conflict interreligiously in the context of how people define antisemitism. The book does not promise to resolve anything\, but offers something just as difficult and more honest: a way to stay in the room when most want to leave. \n\n\n \nIn advance of each session\, participants will read a designated section of the book. Each session will explore key themes\, added learning\, and meaningful discussions based on the reading. In this book\, Sax seeks to (1) guide us to become better listeners in contentious conversations; (2) help us appreciate the history and the politics of defining antisemitism\, and (3) explore when criticism of Israel is and is not antisemitic. \n\n\n \nThis is risky\, difficult\, and\, at times\, troubling existential work. The hope for this series is to invite learners to consider new ways into these conversations and to appreciate experiences and perspectives beyond those of themselves and their communities\, without the conventional pressure to accept any one particular point of view. \n\n\n \nSupporter Ticket pricing helps offset the true cost of this Happening\, making it possible for us to keep standard ticket prices as accessible as possible. We never want cost to be a barrier to participating. If the ticket price presents a financial challenge\, please reach out to Lou Fusco at lou@thirdspacest.org—we’re happy to help. \n\n\n \nBenjamin E. Sax serves as the Head of Scholarship and the Jewish Scholar at the Institute for Islamic\, Christian\, and Jewish Studies in Baltimore. Ben is an experienced professor\, university administrator\, scholar\, award-winning teacher\, public speaker\, and practitioner and facilitator of interreligious dialogue. Before arriving at the ICJS\, Ben was director of the Malcolm and Diane Rosenberg Program in Judaic Studies and the founding faculty principal at the West Ambler Johnston Residential College at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg\, Virginia. In addition to publishing on topics relating to Jewish philosophy\, German-Jewish history and culture\, Jewish-Christian relations\, and interreligious dialogue\, Ben has discussed his work on PBS and Baltimore’s NPR affiliate WYPR. In October 1944 (Simchat Torah) 800 Jewish boys aged thirteen to seventeen were marched into Crematorium 5\, stripped naked and locked inside as Zyklon B was inserted. 51 survived. Now\, six share their extraordinary\, unique and never told before personal testimony\, coupled with corroborative forensic evidence\, rare Nazi archives and CGI reconstruction. Inspired by the internationally bestselling book\, Miracle\, the film is produced by JRoots\, a leading Holocaust education organization preserving survivor testimony and sharing Jewish history through award-winning documentaries and immersive storytelling. By teaching Israel through food\, we invite trip participants to taste history\, to understand coexistence through shared meals\, and to discover how a small nation has become a global culinary powerhouse. Food opens hearts and minds in ways that textbooks cannot — it makes Israel tangible\, delicious\, and deeply personal.
