SUMMARY:Behind the Scenes with Ravens’ Chief of Staff\, Adam Neuman: On Sports Leadership\, Fandom & Guiding Wisdom
DESCRIPTION:Behind the Scenes with Ravens’ Chief of Staff\, Adam Neuman: On Sports Leadership\, Fandom & Guiding Wisdom\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nJoin us at Third Space for a highlight of the fall: an evening with Adam Neuman\, Chief of Staff of the Baltimore Ravens. This evening will unfold in two parts\, with limited seating for the second. Please register early to ensure your seat for the second half of the program! \n\n\n \nThe evening begins in the sanctuary with Adam Neuman and Rabbi Jessy Dressin in conversation about the intersection of sports leadership\, fandom\, Jewish identity\, and inherited wisdom. Neuman will share how his acumen for the sports world was shaped by his upbringing and experiences as an observant Jew through family\, schooling\, and recognizing (or creating) opportunities. Neuman will provide timely insights and analysis based on the Ravens’ current season as they prepare for their Week 12 matchup against the New York Jets. \n\n\n \nFor those interested in learning more about sports leadership\, motivating wisdom\, and how a mensch landed a coveted role in the National Football League\, Adam Neuman will lead an interactive experience after the formal talk. NFL Live may not cover it\, but Adam will share how he has discovered sage wisdom amongst the sports greats\, like Ed Reed\, alongside the rabbinic greats\, like Rabbi Moses Maimonides. \n\n\n \nAdam Neuman serves as Chief of Staff and Special Advisor to the President of the Baltimore Ravens\, where he provides strategic counsel and manages the administrative\, operational\, financial\, and legal activities for President Sashi Brown. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Upcoming Events\n \n \n\n\n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Your Vote Matters!\n We are delighted to invite you to JWGF’s Final Voting Session for the 2025-2026 grant cycle. Every month\, we select one Friday evening for our Happy (Hour) Shabbat\, when you’re invited to intentionally slow down and separate from the busyness of the weekly demands of productivity. \n\n\n \nVisit with friends\, old and new. SUMMARY:Inseparable and Not the Same: Judaism\, Zionism\, and the Modern Jewish Condition
DESCRIPTION:Inseparable and Not the Same: Judaism\, Zionism\, and the Modern Jewish Condition\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nIn today’s polarized landscape\, Judaism and Zionism are often treated as either identical or entirely opposed. This class explores what is lost in both extremes\, when allegiance to Israel becomes the measure of Jewishness and when rejection of Zionism erases a core strand of Judaism. We will grapple with the reality that anti-Zionism often expresses deep antisemitic sentiments\, even as it also has a long and complex history within Jewish thought and debate. Together we will ask how a more nuanced engagement with Zionism might deepen\, rather than divide\, contemporary Jewish life. \n\n\n \nRabbi Dr. Joshua Ladon is the Vice President\, West Coast and Senior Faculty at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America\, where he guides the program and development strategy on the West Coast. An award-winning educator\, Joshua was previously the Director of Education for the Institute in North America\, guiding the content and curriculum of national and regional programs. Prior to Hartman he served as the Dean of Student and Jewish Life at the Jewish Community High School of the Bay. \n\n\n \nA part of the series Wrestling with Complexity: Israel in Our Time \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Upcoming Events\n \n \n\n\n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Your Vote Matters!\n We are delighted to invite you to JWGF’s Final Voting Session for the 2025-2026 grant cycle. DESCRIPTION:“A Jewish Girl in Shanghai” Film Screening and Discussion Panel\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nInterested in the diversity of the Jewish experience? Like niche history? \n\n\n \nJoin the Baltimore Jewish Council for a screening of the animated film “A Jewish Girl in Shanghai.” \n\n\n \nAfter the film screening\, participants will hear from a speaker panel featuring current Holocaust Remembrance Committee member\, Lisa Sparks\, whose mother\, Yvonne Daniel\, was born in the Shanghai Ghetto to parents who had fled Nazi-occupied Europe. Yvonne’s story was a part of the Jewish Museum of Maryland’s prior exhibit on the Jews of Shanghai. Lisa will join in facilitated conversation with Beth Israel Congregation’s Rabbi Rachel Safman. \n\n\n \nLight kosher fare will be provided. Registration is highly encouraged. \n\n\n \n“A Jewish Girl in Shanghai” is set primarily in the Shanghai Ghetto during the Japanese occupation in World War II. The film follows Rina\, a young Jewish girl\, and her younger brother Mishalli\, who have fled Europe in search of safety but are separated from their parents. They encounter A-Gen\, a Chinese orphan boy who helps them navigate the challenges of their new life in Shanghai. Together\, they form a strong bond and face the dangers posed by the occupying forces\, including the Japanese army and their Nazi allies. \n\n\n \nThis film is notable for being the first animated Chinese film to address the Holocaust\, marking an important step in fostering Jewish-Chinese relations. It has been well-received both in China and internationally\, praised for its sensitive portrayal of the experiences of Jewish refugees in Shanghai\, a city that served as a haven for many during the war. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Upcoming Events\n \n \n\n\n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Your Vote Matters!\n We are delighted to invite you to JWGF’s Final Voting Session for the 2025-2026 grant cycle. DESCRIPTION:Arguments for the Sake of Heaven – Is It Possible?\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nIt is said that our rabbinic sages used to argue vehemently about every facet of Jewish custom and observance. They would debate and intellectually ‘duke it out’ and then they would sit down to share meals together\, their relationships strengthened by their arguments. It is also said that\, at times\, debates have proliferated amongst sectors of the Jewish people\, and we have been unable to talk to one another. Join Rabbi Jessy for an exploration of the history of argument and debate. What is the difference between a productive argument and one that is not? When does disagreement stand to strengthen us and when does it risk our demise? What are the ‘rules’ for debate that keeps us moving in a positive direction and when does it fall apart? This series is for those looking to learn more about the role that argument and debate has played in the rabbinic tradition with an opportunity to practice some of those skills in the last session. No previous knowledge or familiarity with ‘text’ necessary in order to participate! \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Upcoming Events\n \n \n\n\n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Your Vote Matters!\n We are delighted to invite you to JWGF’s Final Voting Session for the 2025-2026 grant cycle. Join us for an inspiring conversation about Jewish courage\, defiance\, and resilience. \n\n\n \nAuthor Izabella Tabarovsky brings the insights of her acclaimed book Be a Refusenik to Baltimore. Drawing on the moral clarity of the refusenik movement\, the book offers a powerful\, practical framework for navigating today’s climate of anti-Jewish ideological coercion. Joined by former refusenik Aleksander Smukler and one of this generation’s leading Jewish voices\, Eyal Yakoby\, the conversation explores what it takes to stand firm\, refuse to bend under pressure\, and affirm the full spectrum of Jewish identity in our time. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Upcoming Events\n \n \n\n\n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Your Vote Matters!\n We are delighted to invite you to JWGF’s Final Voting Session for the 2025-2026 grant cycle. Each activity is rooted in Jewish values and offers a tangible way for even our youngest participants to make a real impact. \n\n\n \nWe’ll weave in joyful Shabbat rituals\, songs\, and community connection\, creating a warm and welcoming space where families can do good\, feel good\, and grow together. \n\n\n \nIf you’re looking to connect more before the event\, our Towson and Lutherville-Timonium Community Connectors are hosting a pre-event pizza party at 5:15 p.m. Kosher pizza will be available upon request. Not feeling pizza? She will discuss a dilemma that the High Priest encounters when performing the special Yom Kippur service. The resolution occurs when an individual becomes part of something bigger than one’s own limited self. This becomes a spiritual practice of connection that nurtures God consciousness in ourselves and the world around us. Quite timely as we live in a world fraught with disconnection\, fear and anxiety.
