Matt Kasner and Maia Harrison

What does an economics major at University of Maryland and an organizational studies major from University of Michigan have in common?

Both Matt and Maia are having a once-in-a-lifetime experience as participants of Baltimore Onward Israel, an eight-week summer internship program based in Tel Aviv, and interning at MinuteMedia.

What is MinuteMedia? MinuteMedia is a sports media and technology company in Tel Aviv, which provides content and sports media news globally. They specialize in three primary fields: European football (Matt and Maia still call it soccer), American sports and professional video gaming.

Meet Matt

At MinuteMedia, I run 11 Facebook Pages owned by the company, each are followed by thousands of people. I help manage the company’s Twitter feed, so I am basically on Twitter all day trying to keep up with the news to share it as fast as I can. I also write articles and create quizzes about soccer. These articles and quizzes go on the website’s front page, so it’s really cool to see my work receive thousands of views. It’s great working for them because I feel like I am truly an employee instead of an intern.

Outside of work, I like to go to the beach, find cool places to eat food, and spend time with my friends on the program. If you visit Tel Aviv, you’ve got to visit Gordon Beach, Sarona market, the shuk (market), and the shops and cafes in Neve Tzedek.

Baltimore Onward Israel gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in the Israeli culture that includes an incredible work experience alongside stunning beaches, glorious food options, interesting museums, and amazing people.

Meet Maia

Job Responsibilities: I am interning in the Human Resources Department and work with my coworkers to develop programs and presentations for both current and future employees.

I love both the company and the work I am doing – I am truly gaining so much valuable business experience by witnessing firsthand the ins and outs of a successful company. This experience will definitely benefit me in the future as I continue my Organizational Studies major, which studies how organizations work and interact with each other.

Baltimore Onward Israel gave me the opportunity to live on my own in a foreign city I’ve always loved, and thus allow me to immerse myself in the culture. I have been able to visit different places and areas, learn how to take public transportation everywhere, speak Hebrew, meet new people, and explore Israel both educationally through my internship and culturally in my free time.
